Our Happy Tails

Our Urgent Tails

Stories from the Heart
Well, all of you that have visited our website have read about our sweet, fun loving adorable “Clyde”. But
don’t worry the news is good!
As most of you know Clyde was and still is the remarkable puppy who survived
heat and starvation in the middle of July. He was found in a basement with his Mother and 8 siblings all
dead except for him. A neighbor called the local animal shelter where Clyde barely made it. However a
miracle happened and Clyde survived. The shelter then adopted him out and to their horror once again
Clyde was mistreated. Actually caged and almost starved once again. They brought him back to the shelter
claiming he was deformed and they didn’t want a “deformed” dog. The Warden labeled him unadoptable and
scheduled him to be euthanized. A Shelter worker called Almost Home and we came to his rescue.

Kristi our volunteer took him under her wing and nurtured him for 61/2 months.
Clyde went from emaciated, practically crippled and listless to a gorgeous, gregarious confident young
boy. His coat now shines like a beautiful black stallion and his eyes sparkle with love. Yes he still walks a
little funny and drools his water all over himself and yes he tires easily but… boy does he love life. This
little boy loves every minute of life and everybody and everything in it. To know Clyde is simply a way of
life. He can enjoy the simplest things in life and take you along with him. Clyde is LOVE. No other way to
describe him.

After all this time Clyde has finally found his forever home with the Goldberg family. After getting
numerous applications for Clyde we finally found that perfect family for our miracle boy Clyde. When we
met the Goldberg family that bright sunny day we knew this was it. So many people wanted Clyde for the
wrong reasons. Many felt sorry for him. Clyde didn’t want pity. Oh know! Clyde just wants to be Clyde!
The first thing Emily said when she met Clyde was,” Isn’t he beautiful? Little Samuel and Benjamin said
“Mommy, Clyde doesn’t look like he has anything wrong with him”. He’s just perfect.” Gregg smiled and
stroked Clyde’s head and Sarabi was a perfect lady and the kitties were awesomel too.
Wow, talk about meant to be?  Love +  Love= Love. We learned that from Clyde!

The Goldbergs have fostered Clyde for a few weeks and are now ready to adopt him and give him his
forever home.

Kristi and her family have been so wonderful and we at Almost Home know how very difficult letting go of
“Her Boy” Clyde is. I saw her sitting in her car when we were ready to leave tears falling down her
cheeks.  I asked her if she was okay and she said I’m okay, its hard but the Goldbergs are so very lovely
and we can’t pass this one up. I’m sure this is right”

This poem is dedicated to Kristi.

There I sat, alone and afraid,
You got a call and came right to my aid.
You bundled me up with blankets and love.
And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.
I learned that the world was not all that scary and cold.
That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold.
You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend.
You loved me and healed me and became my best friend.
And just when I thought you’d done all you do,
There came along not one new lesson, but two.
First you said, “Sweetheart, you’re ready to go.
I’ve done all I can, and you’ve learned all I know.”
Then you bundled me up with a blanket and kiss.
Along came a new family, they even have kids!
They took me to their home, forever to stay.

At first I thought you sent me away.
Then that second lesson became perfectly clear.
No matter how far, you will always be near.
And so, Foster Mom, you know I’ve moved on.
I have a new home, with toys and a lawn.
But I’ll never forget what I learned that first day.
You never really give your fosters away.
You gave me these thoughts to remember you by.
We may never meet again, and now I know why.
You’ll remember I lived with you for a time.
I may not be yours, but you’ll always be mine.

With All My Love,
Clyde X0X0X0
